The snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is one of the most elusive animals on the planet. Dwelling in some of the most rugged terrain on Earth, few humans – even those who live in snow leopard territory – ever get to glimpse the “ghost cat of the mountains.”

That’s what makes the following video footage so special.

A field crew with the Pangje Foundation was visiting a site in Nepal when they got up close and personal with a wild snow leopard. Thinking fast, they filmed the encounter with a small point-and-shoot camera.

As you can see in the video, the cat doesn’t seem terribly concerned with the field crew’s presence: it just walks slowly away, occasionally pausing to look over its shoulder.

If you enjoyed the video, please take a minute to learn about the Pangje Foundation. They’ve been working closely with Dr. Natalie Schmitt – one of this blog’s previous Q&A participants – to help snow leopards and local people thrive in the Himalayas.
