Panthera’s Puma Program shared this story on Facebook, and I knew I had to post it here.
It seems that on June 26 a mountain lion made its way into Pleasant Grove, Utah. When these cats wander into residential neighborhoods (or rather when houses are built in mountain lion habitat), they are often killed. But Pleasant Grove’s police department and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) chose to tranquilize and relocate the cat, instead of shoot it.
Granted, relocating big cats doesn’t always work. But the fact that Pleasant Grove’s police and the Utah DWR elected to try shows an uncommon level of compassion.
